Comb Craft is the craft of making combs of Sheesham wood. It originated and is practiced in the craft pocket of Bijnore, U.P. The artisans make their own tools for the motifs, which is a uniqueness of this craft. One more distinctive feature of comb craft is that a few designs look curvaceous from the top and geometrical when turned upside down.
The Beehive India has been associated with artisans of Comb Craft for 20 years now. We have explored the craft in 3D forms like lamps ( combs are 2D), and the market has responded very well to them. Also, we have experimented with woods other than Sheesham; like Ebony, Eucalyptus, Rubberwood, Paddock &Teak.
We are also interested in making furniture pieces like large Screens using Comb Craft.
We have explored the comb craft on Bamboo as well, by making some lamps of Bamboo, successfully.
We are further trying to combine Benaras lathe craft & comb craft. In near future, we may come up with a range of products where the body is made by the Benaras artisans & Comb craft is being done on it.
