Marquetry Or Wood Inlay Craft is a traditional and popular craft of Mysore. It is done by pasting small multi-colored wood pieces on a wooden base to depict forest scenes or mythological stories of Ramayana or Mahabharata .

The Beehive India has been associated with the artisans of Mysore for almost 20 years. Champa leaf is a nature inspired motif and using it on products gives them a contemporary look and feel.

We have developed a range of Dining table, Coffee table & Kitchen accessories using the Champa Leaf theme, in Neem , Arjun and Walnut woods. The products are Trays, Platters, Chopping Boards, Napkin Holders, Cutlery Holders, Trivets, Coasters, Boxes, Photoframes.

We have also inlaid the Champa Leaf on furniture products e.g. Beds, Side Tables to give them a premium look.

The Beehive India researched extensively on the heritage monument “Qutub Minar”, and picked a few motifs e.g. Top view of Qutub Minar, Bud Motif, Flower Motif & Chain Motif. We interpreted the motifs using the Heritage Craft of Wood Inlay. By using a heritage craft to interpret the motifs of a heritage Indian monument using indigenous woods, we have tried to develop an Indian Design Language or to bring our the Indian-ness of our design.

Qutub Minar Series is a part of our Indian Heritage series, which combines traditional Indian craft , Indian heritage & Indian Woods.

The range of products developed around the Qutub Minar Motifs are Dining Accessories, Coffee Table & Kitchen Accessories. We have also inlaid the Qutub Minar motifs in our Furniture items.

Zig Zag or Chevron is a motif found everywhere around us, in rocks, leaves, wood, ancient carvings etc.

We have developed  Dining Table, Coffee Table & Kitchen Accessories using Chevron theme ; made in Teak, Wenge, Stained Teak; consisting of  Trays, Platters, Coasters, Trivets, Napkin Holders, Cutlery Holders, Boxes, Photoframes etc.

Jodhpur Mesh or Jali is already a very popular design in stone in Rajasthan. It is a very intricate design and we have translated it in wood. The artisans of Mysore have done excellent work and they have made the intricate design in wood inlay beautifully.

These are some of our arbitrary explorations in Mysore Inlay. They can be used as wall tiles or wall paintings.
