About Us
The Beehive India was founded in 2006 by Mr. Pankaj Narain, an alumnus of NID Ahmedabad, as a research and experimentation-led design studio based in New Delhi, India.
Our vision from the beginning has been to work with indigenous Indian woods — including species that are rarely used in conventional product-making. By studying the grain, strength, behavior, and character of each wood species, we let its natural properties dictate what it becomes. Rather than imposing a design on the material, we believe in allowing the wood to guide the form. Over the years, we’ve studied and worked with over 30–40 different types of Indian wood, deepening our understanding of this living material.
Equally central to our philosophy is a commitment to the preservation and revival of Indian woodcraft traditions. We work closely with traditional artisans, collaboratively developing contemporary products that retain the identity and integrity of the original craft. Our approach is rooted in respect for heritage craft techniques such as Marquetry, Tarkashi, Lathe turning, Wooden Comb Craft, Channapatna, while also seeking to diversify their existing product range through motifs inspired by nature and historic Indian architecture.
Through this process, The Beehive India is trying to slowly shape an Indian design language — one that is rooted in Indian material , cultural crafts, natural / heritage monument motifs and meaningful collaboration with the traditional craftsperson.
